DARRAN SOLAR FARM

Sirius Renewable Energy have started construction at its most recent renewable energy project in South Wales. Darran Farm solar array is a 1.85MW ground mounted solar project located near the Pen y Fan industrial estate, Caerphilly, adjacent to Sirius Renewable Energy’s Pen y Fan wind turbine.

Darran Solar Farm will be the first solar scheme developed under Sirius’ build-own-operate model which has been so successfully applied to our growing wind turbine portfolio.

 

 
 
 
 
 
 

The scheme (due for connection in March) is the 2nd of 3 phases of Sirius’ Pen Y Fan Energy Park Masterplan and is being constructed hot on the heels of our adjacent 1.5MW wind turbine development (can you spot it in the background?).  The solar PV scheme will also be one of the last in the UK developed under the Renewable Obligations Certificate (ROC) support mechanism which is being abolished in April of this year.

Our aim is to use the electricity produced from the farm to supply discounted power directly to a local manufacturing business supporting growth and jobs in the region for the next 25 years.

Sirius has undertaken the full project delivery works for this site including planning, ground investigation, design and enabling works construction and procurement of all component parts.

 

 

Sirius Remediation is the Principal Contractor for the works and Sirius Environmental is the Principal Designer under the CDM Regulations.

The assembly of the solar farm will be undertaken by Conecon UK Ltd utilising South Korean panels, a German mounting system and cabling and electrical equipment supplied by UK companies.

Darran Farm solar is the first ground mounted solar project for which the construction has been funded and undertaken directly by Sirius Group, and it is the first solar farm that Sirius Renewable Energy will be adding to its portfolio of renewable energy assets which it owns, operates and maintains in the UK.
