Job Details
We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Senior Engineer to join our geoenvironmental consultancy teams based in Durham. You will have post graduate experience in geoenvironmental or geotechnical consulting.
To be successful in your application you must demonstrate:
A strong academic background in a relevant subject e.g., Engineering Geology/Environmental Engineering with knowledge of both geotechnical engineering and contaminated land risk assessment
Working towards chartership/achieved chartership with a relevant professional body
Experience in carrying out Site Investigations
A good understanding of contaminated land regulatory and legislative framework
A good knowledge of the principal soil and rock strata encountered in the UK and are able to log samples using the descriptions contained within BS EN ISO 14688-1&2: 2018, BS EN ISO 14689: 2018 and BS:5930:2015+A1:2020
The ability to use conceptual models to design and justify the nature and scope of site investigation works
Experience in undertaking factual and interpretative Phase I & II assessments
Experience in business development and tendering
Project management experience and line management of junior staff
Strong experience in liaison and engagement with clients and regulators
Basic computer literacy and experience with standard MS packages such as MS Word and MS Excel. Knowledge of CAD and Holebase desirable.
Experience in undertaking / managing cover soil and gas protection measures verification is desirable.
Experience of waste and resource management and Definition of Waste Code of Practice would be advantageous.
Key Tasks:
Project management focusing on technical delivery and financial performance
Writing and reviewing of factual and interpretive reports – e.g., Desk Studies, Preliminary Risk Assessments, Phase 2 Ground Investigation Reports, Mining Risk Assessments, Hazardous Ground Gas Risk Assessments, Remediation Strategies etc.
Prepare quotes/tenders for potential projects
Engaging in client liaison and business development
Liaison with regulators
Providing technical advice and support to clients
Providing technical support and advice to other parts of The Sirius Group
Line management of junior staff.

Conditions of Employment
Full-time position based in our Durham office / on-site / home working.
35 hours per week.
21 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays with the option to purchase up to an additional 5 days.
Death in Service.

Must have a full, clean driving licence.
Mileage rates to be paid inline with HMRC fuel rates.
