Sirius Engineering Group has appointed top international land remediation expert Professor Phil Morgan.

Professor Morgan - a leading technical authority in contaminated soil and groundwater investigation, risk assessment and remediation – joined Sirius in October and is based at the company’s Runcorn office.

More than 20 years experience in consultancy and in the oil and chemistry industry has seen him working on large-scale projects across the globe, including China, Malaysia, South America , the UK and the USA.

He’s Visiting Professor of Environmental Biotechnology at the University of Sheffield, current Chairman of the government-funded CL:AIRE Technology & Research Group and Chairman of the DTI funded Bioremediation LINK Programme Management Committee.

The high-profile appointment has been described as another success for Sirius, which has enjoyed substantial growth since launching in 2003 to provide a complete end-to-end land remediation solution, from pre-acquisition assessment and initial site investigations through testing, risk analysis, design, engineering and remediation works.

Sirius Engineering Group Director Patrick Kane believes the move cements

the companys position as one of the leading UK land remediation specialists.

Professor Morgan works at the cutting-edge of risk-assessment and remediation and is a much sought-after industry figure with an acute understanding of UK remediation legislation and regulations, he said. He can offer Sirius clients unparalleled access to the latest thinking on breakthrough technologies and sensible, expert advice on how to apply these advanced solutions to real sites and real problems.

Morgan, 47, said he was delighted with the appointment. “My passion is the practical application of new and improved site assessment and remediation technologies, helping to successfully regenerate brownfield sites that only a few years ago would have been impossible to decontaminate,” he said.

“The Sirius Group is an energetic, respected, forward-thinking company that embraces modern remediation methods. I’m proud to join Sirius, help accelerate their growth and offer advice on the latest technologies.”

Sirius, whose clients include national housebuilders, commercial property developers and local authorities, now has four offices in Runcorn, Durham, Nottingham and Leeds.

The group includes Sirius Geotechnical and Environmental, Sirius Remediation, Sirius Drilling Services and Sirius Asbestos Management.

Professor Morgan has extensive experience in environmental technology development and application:

  • Visiting Professor of Environmental Biotechnology, University of Sheffield (2000-present)

  • Chairman, DTI Bioremediation LINK Programme Management Committee (2001-present)

  • Chairman (2007 & 2008) Contaminated Land: Applications in Real Environments (CL:AIRE) Technology & Research Group
